To evaluate the safety of water in buildings, and the impact on human health and well-being, NSF International is developing a robust suite of standards, protocols and training materials. These landmark initiatives address water safety throughout the entire building water system with the aim of preventing waterborne disease and injury while promoting public health and safety.

Chris Boyd is General Manager for the NSF Building Water Health program. Chris came to NSF International from the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in New York City (NYC), where he led the agency’s response to the largest Legionella outbreak in NYC history. He also reorganized the response to building and environmental outbreaks and oversaw implementation of the first Legionella controlling regulatory standards in cooling towers. As Assistant Commissioner of Environmental Sciences and Engineering in NYC, Boyd was also responsible for regulatory oversight of the New York City municipal water system. Additionally, he managed a team of over 100 personnel, including engineers, research scientists, medical physicists, water ecologists and public health sanitarians.

Andrew Ward is the Senior Technical Reviewer for the Building Water Health program at NSF International. His responsibilities include new standard development, client training, and creating audit programs for water systems. Previously, he was the technical reviewer for the recreational water program. Andrew holds a Master of Science in organic chemistry from the University of Notre Dame and a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the University of Detroit Mercy.

Dann Holmes is a Business Development Manager (BDM) at NSF International focusing Building Water Health, and Cooling Towers. Previously he worked as a BDM in Plastics R&D and as a Business Unit Manager in the Water Divisions’ Mechanical Plumbing Program. Prior to NSF, he spent nearly 11 years as District Manager for Viega, LLC. He has been involved in the Plumbing and Mechanical industry since 1987. He is the Affiliate Liaison in ASPE Region 2 and writes monthly newsletter articles for publication by Region 2 Chapters. He also holds a Director position on the ASPE Eastern Michigan Chapter Board and the role of Vice President on the ASSE Michigan Chapter Board. In addition, he is a member of ASHRAE, ASHE, and the Engineering Society of Detroit. He is involved in the Code Study and Development Group of Southeastern Michigan, a group of dedicated individuals who volunteer their time to review proposed code changes. He regularly presents CEU classes to plumbing and mechanical inspectors, engineers as well as plumbing and mechanical professionals.
